Dr. Jason McLellan, a professor of Molecular Biosciences and the Robert A. Welch Chair in Chemistry at The University of Texas at Austin, will receive the 2024 IVI - SK Bioscience Park MahnHoon Award.  This award recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions in the field of vaccines.

Dr. McLellan received this award for his role in the development of vaccines, including for COVID-19 and RSV. Specifically the award notes, “His pioneering work in understanding protein structure and function and in developing stabilizing modifications for prefusion proteins have played a pivotal role in the creation of vaccines and potential treatments for deadly pathogens afflicting billions of people.”

This award was established in 2022 by IVI, the world’s only international organization devoted exclusively to vaccines for global public health, in collaboration with SK bioscience, a leading vaccine manufacturer based in South Korea to remember the legacy of their late Vice Chairman Dr. Park. Dr. Park passed away in 2021 after making significant contributions to the development of vaccines for global health and the Korean vaccine industry throughout his lifetime.

Presentation of the award will take place in April 2024 in Seoul, South Korea.
