MBS - Hamilton Seed Grants will support basic research on any topic in biology. The grants are intended to foster interdisciplinary research involving two laboratories with different expertise (e.g., a molecular cell biology lab and physics, a biochemistry lab and computer science, a microbiology lab and chemistry, etc.).


PhD students in MBS faculty laboratories in any graduate program may apply.

Total Award: $5,000

To be spent by student with guidance from PhD advisor on research project related costs. Training costs such as fees for a course to learn a new method or technique are allowed. Student salary and UT tuition are not allowed.

Project Duration: 1 year

  • Read and sign grant reporting agreement
  • Convert application to PDF and attach/merge with applicant’s CV
