Protect Texas Together App
PROTECT TEXAS TOGETHER APP
Use the Protect Texas Together app in place of the Daily Health Attestation form. The college's Daily Health Attestation form for employees is no longer valid due to the launch of the Protect Texas Together app, which is taking its place. Find a link to the app, and more information about the app on the CNS web page for research and on-campus operations during COIVD-19.
The new Protect Texas Together app helps individuals track their symptoms each day - and based on those symptoms - indicates whether they are cleared to come to campus. Learn more about the app here and download the app here. The app was developed by UT students and employees for UT students and employees, with a strong focus on protecting privacy.
Some features of the Protect Texas Together are:
- Users can track their symptoms each day with the app, which can provide a daily campus pass for those without any major COVID-19 symptoms.
- If the app's algorithm determines that an individual may have COVID-19 based on the symptoms that person selected, the app will decline to provide a pass and instead direct the user to contact either University Health Services or UT Health Austin for guidance or testing. Faculty and staff members can also go to the provider of their choice.
- Beyond daily symptom screening, the app allows users to easily and quickly log in and out of campus rooms (for contact tracing purposes), access local COVID-19 information and resources and connect their EID to a proactive community test ID, should they volunteer for asymptomatic testing.
- For those without a smartphone, a phone-based survey application is also available by dialing 800-325-8903. This uses the same algorithm as the app to indicate whether a person is safe to come to campus, but works on any phone. The phone-based survey requires a unique access code, which is available here. Those without internet access or in need of further assistance should call the UT Service Desk at 512-475-9400.
- Campus visitors without EIDs can use this symptom-monitoring app developed by the CDC if they wish.
MBS Administrative COVID-19 FAQ and Updates
MBS Administrative COVID-19 FAQ and Updates:
VPR Guidelines for on campus research operations effective February 24, 2021.
- Research groups can set their own schedules for their members within the following parameters:
- PIs must have COVID research level 3 (RL3) approval for their groups. Approvals obtained earlier remain valid and you no longer need to submit personnel revision requests. If you are not RL3-approved, contact CNS (CNS_SRI@austin.utexas.edu) to proceed.
- Research on campus is only allowed from 6am to 2am.
- PIs must have a concrete mechanism to ensure that room occupancy density never exceeds the allowed maximum occupation (>125 sq. ft. per person, >6 ft. separation between workplaces; this is what the VPR refers to as 50% density). You may do this by setting up your own cohort system, or by having a dynamic system that monitors occupancy. However, you must file your occupancy plan with CNS before you abandon the current cohort system. File he occupancy plan by emailing it as a PDF named “research_density_plan_Feb_2021_PI-lastname.pdf” toCNS_SRI@austin.utexas.edu).
- PIs must maintain an accurate occupancy log for contact tracing. You must be able to access these logs quickly in case somebody in your group tests positive for COVID.
- Maximum occupancy is determined by the following criteria (the VPR refers to this as 50% occupancy):
- Each person has at least 125 sq. ft. of working space.
- Each person is separated by at least 6 ft. from their nearest neighbor at their workplace (e.g., desk, bench space)
- You must follow masking and distancing guidance at all times. If at all possible, follow the new masking guidance issued by the university (https://healthyhorns.utexas.edu/images/pdf/ProtectiveFaceMaskGuidance_2020.pdfdouble masking with a medical grade disposable mask ASTM level 2 or 3 and a fabric mask; replace disposable masks daily, wash fabric masks daily).
- All on-campus researchers are strongly encouraged to get tested for COVID weekly. Testing on campus is free and convenient through UT’s Proactive Community Testing (PCT) program. Information can be found here:https://healthyhorns.utexas.edu/coronavirus_proactive_testing.html
- Perform a symptom check every day before coming to campus. Do not come to campus if you show any COVID symptoms. The Protect Texas together App includes a convenient symptom checker and simplifies testing through PCT. Visithttps://protect.utexas.edu/app/to download.

- Custodial Services – Updated June 10, 2020
- Custodial services are back to normal cleaning schedules, which means researchers will see them cleaning bathrooms, common areas, etc. during the day and will see them beginning their evening work shifts at their usual early evening times. It is not possible to achieve both enhanced cleaning and reduced custodial hours simultaneously.
- The restart plan calls for researchers to vacate buildings from 10 p.m. – 6 a.m. daily to allow custodial services to work unfettered. Some researchers have misinterpreted this to mean that custodial services will only be working 10 p.m. – 6 a.m. daily, this is not the case. Having researchers vacate the buildings overnight enables custodial services to ensure that shared high-traffic spaces are thoroughly cleaned before people return to work again in the morning. Having researchers vacate the buildings overnight also ensures that 24/7 work schedules are not being forced upon trainees.
- Custodial services will not be entering labs nightly to pick up trash. Please place your general trash into hallway for pick-up. Custodial will also, pick-up broken glass boxes placed in corridor. DO NOT place chemical waste, sharps containers or BIO waste boxes in the corridor. These need to be handled in accordance with current EHS policies and procedures.

- Please continue to email mbs_orders@austin.utexas.edu with your requests and Rose & Stacey will address.

- At this time, there are no purchasing constraints from the University or sources of funds for items under $100,000.
- For items over $100,000, those purchases will require the approval from the Senior Vice President and CFO.
- How to I get PPE or order PPE?
- Please verify via the VPR Research Starter Kit if you qualify for University purchased PPE. If not, then please proceed with ordering via a PO or ProCard.
- What are the requirements for outside vendors, technicians, or any non-UT employee when entering UT Buildings?
- All building occupants, whether UT affiliated or not need to follow all UT COVID-19 protocols (face coverings, social distancing, frequent handwashing, disinfection of surfaces).
- If PI’s are scheduling technicians, please ensure the technician confirms with the PI that they are not running a fever or showing any symptoms of the disease before and when they come onto campus. They also need to acknowledge that if they end up testing positive for COVID-19 they need to inform the PI of this.
- How do I request keys or new keys?
- Please email Molecular Biosciences molecular_biosciences@austin.utexas.edu with your building and room request need, include the PI in your email request.
